100 Coats of Makeup

OK, so the summer makeup world is full of fun. Aside from the super serious KatVonD/Jeffree Star drama that's happening right now, beauty bloggers and vloggers are having a good time.

One thing that's trending right now is the ridiculous 100 coats of makeup. It started with 100 coats of nail polish, where the nail looked like some weird Dr Seuss creature at the end. That inspired others to do their own version of 100 coats of... So I've collected a few of those videos here.

Remember, this is all in fun and makeup wearers/ MUAs don't *really* do this. It's just to be silly! I think I'm personally going to skip this bandwagon.

UPDATE!

Added Jenna Marbles' spoof of the "beauty trend" spoof:

Neutral eye. Metallic lip. Shiny highlighter.

June was a crazy month for me. It ended up slowing down my blog, which is unfortunate.

I have been keeping tabs on new beauty though. And there are so many wonderful things that have been recently released or are being released, I wanted to put them all here!

Neutral eye. Metallic lip. Shiny highlighter. THE look for the summer! Check out new makeup from Anastasia, Smashbox, and NYX. Most products are available at Ulta or Sephora.

Anastasia's Modern Renaissance palette

A powder eyeshadow palette with neutrals to die for. A few berry shades are thrown in there which will really amp up your summer eye looks. Always high pigment, Modern Renaissance is your one palette choice for a super versatile neutral eye. (Though I do still love Urban Decay's Naked palettes).

Anastasia Moonchild Glow Kit

Getting your glow on is shiny! Moonchild is a delightful highlighter palette with many shades for many moon moods. Shimmery and celestial, with 6 celestial shades like Star and Blue Moon. The only problem I see is having a favorite and burning through it.

Smashbox Photo Op Eyeshadow Singles

10 totally versatile shades to pull from for everyday or high impact looks. These singles are pigmented and lasting.

Just look at these swatches. Gush!

NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Cream

Metallic lips. Need I say more? NYX has 10 new metallic lip cream shades, and they are amaze! Personally, I don't think these beauties are getting the attention they deserve.

Eyeshadow as Easy as 1 - 2 - 3 - 4

I absolutely love eyeshadow. I think eyeshadow is one really easy way to showcase your eyes, and your personality. I love bright, bold eyeshadow colors. And I really love how eyeshadow can bring attention to your eyes.

Eyeshadow palettes can be busy and complicated. And while those huge, lovely palettes have a place in a makeup collection, sometimes sticking to something easy for everyday is the better choice. Avon's Quad Eyeshadow palettes make your daily eyeshadow application routine ridiculously easy. Eyeshadow as Easy as 1 -2 - 3 - 4.

The quad is numbered for an easy guide on application. Eyeshadow colors can be applied however you choose, but a reliable method is:

  1. light color all over the eyelid, up to the brow bone
  2. medium color all over the eyelid, and beneath the eye as a base for undereye liner
  3. darker color pressed onto the center of the eyelid, for maximum pigment intensity
  4. coordinating color swept into the crease to accentuate
Blend and apply eyeliner and mascara as you usually do!

The eyeshadow quad is available in 18 shade palettes, and 5 of those are all matte!

True Color Technology:

  • The rich color you see in the compact is the same color you get on your eyes
  • Rich, vibrant color with crease-proof wear
  • Color saturated shades designed for every skin tone
  • Numbered shades for our easiest expert eye looks ever
  • Exquisite stay-true coordinated shades make every eye-look effortless

Bronzed Beauty

Looking for a summer bronze without the risks of sun exposure? Bronzers are so easy to use to help contour, highlight and enhance your complexion.

Still not sure how to master the perfect bronze? Here's how to acheive that sunkissed look:

  • Swirl your bronzer brush in the powder or pearls
  • Sweep the brush across the top of your forehead, just below the hairline
  • Circle a bit onto your temples
  • Pull some bronzer down under your cheekbones (apply just below where you would normally sweep blush; highlight above cheekbone blush, bronze below cheekbone blush.)
  • Blend bronzer along your chin and jawline
After applying all powder contouring, bronzer, blush, and highlighter, make sure you go back with a Kabuki brush and blend it all to make it look more natural and to reduce any harsh lines that may have been created during application.

mark. Glowdacious Illuminating Powder

A delicious bronzing, highlighting, illuminating swirl of color to get that glowing skin! While any shade can be used for any skin tone, Prettied Up is ideal for light skin , Shimmied Up is best for medium skin and Amped Up looks amazing on dark skin.

Glow Bronzing Powder

A sunny bronzer in Sunkissed Glow, Warm Glow or Light Bronze shades.

Glow Bronzing Pearls

Delightful color pearls are a unique way to get your bronze on. These multi-toned pearls provide a blended, natural glow. In Sunkissed or Bronzed shades.

Don't forget a bronzing brush!

Big Lashes With Big Mascaras

Mascara is the type of makeup that can make or break a look. Usually.. it makes the look! (Thankfully). But getting that gooey stuff on your lashes can be a bit tricky. For me, it also irritates my eyes ever the course of the day, so I have to make sure the mascara I use is suitable for sensitivity. (A side note... every Avon mascara I wear does not irritate my eyes! Bonus.)

I have been wearing the new Big & Multiplied for several days now, and I've noticed two things that really sets it apart: 1. It makes my lashes look amazing! Full, long and amazing. 2. It doesn't even feel like I'm wearing mascara. I usually feel the weight of my mascara, but this doesn't even feel like I'm wearing anything!

Big & Daring

Go bold with 5X more volume! Sweep on from root to tip for 24-hour explosive volume. Curved brush captures every lash while sculpting and filling in gaps. Plumping complex and innovative cream formula delivers more volume.

Big & Daring is hypoallergenic, opthalmologist tested and suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

Big & False

Get the look of full volume false eyelashes with Big & False Lash Volume Mascara. The specially formulated brush allows mascara to get to the root of your lash line and fill in lashes from the corners to lower lashes, giving you a false lash look easy! Apply a few swipes of the clump free and waterproof mascara to get unbelievable lashes.

Big & False is sweat and waterproof, hypoallergenic and can be worn with contacts (unlike most glue on false lashes!)

Big & Multiplied

Our first triple-threat mascara: detangling + serious separation + head-turning volume! For the ultimate look in lash fullness. Featuring a killer combo of brushing and combing zones that instantly separate and volumize lashes. Designed with Smart Slip Technology, our mascara sticks to lashes, not to itself. Good-bye unruly lashes!

Big & Multiplied is waterproof, easy to remove, with lightweight all day wear. Hypoallergenic and ophthalmologist tested.

Big & Daring, Big & False and Big & Multiplied are all available in brown black, black, or blackest black.

Mascara Tips

• Apply mascara after all of your eyeshadow and eyeliner.
• Rotate your mascara wand inside the bottle, do not pump.
• For volume, brush the wand from root to tip and wiggle wand as you brush.
• For definition, pull wand smoothly to separate lashes, and also apply mascara to your lower lashes.
• For length, brush the tops of your lashes and add additional coats to the eyelash ends.

Fierce Foundations: Primer, Liquid, Cream, Cream to Powder, Powder

Foundation is an important piece of our beauty routines because it creates a smooth appearance, where color and accentuation can be added. Foundation helps to protect our skin, especially if it contains SPF, and it can act as a base for contouring and blush color. The type of foundation you choose is based on a few factors: preferred look and feel, coverage, and makeup goals (for example, natural look versus full glam).

Primer

Why do we even use primer? Well, primer does a few very important things: it fills in lines and creates a clean surface to begin the makeup artistry, it smooths your skin and allows foundation to blend, tinted primers and color correctors can help reduce discoloration, and primer helps to lock in moisture.

MagiX Face Perfector is a colorless primer that smooths your foundation application, and offers SPF 20. Follow up with your favorite foundation.

Liquid

Ideal Flawless Invisible Coverage gives complete coverage while still feeling lightweight and natural. Contains SPF 15, and comfortable to wear all day. This foundation smooths skin texture, and helps skin feel moisturized. 21 shades and Invisiblend Technology make skin matching easy!

Anew Age-Transforming is a full coverage liquid foundation with the added benefits of Anew skincare technology. Using this foundation helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pores and age spots. 14 shades.

BB Beauty Balm Cream is lightweight liquid foundation, almost like a moisturizer. The BB cream is hydrating, with lightweight coverage and SPF 15 protection. 5 shades.

CC Color Corrector Cream is perfect for pigment issues, including uneven skin tone, redness, or dark spots on your skin. The CC also has powerful sun protection with SPF 50. 5 shades.

Cream

The Anew Age-Transforming 2-in-1 Compact has delicious creamy foundation, with added aging ingredients in a delightful swirl. Easy to apply, with medium coverage, this foundation is infused with Anew Serum anti-aging technology for younger looking skin. I do recommend a translucent powder to set for a matte finish. 8 shades.

Cream to Powder

Extra Lasting Cream To Powder Foundation is an amazing time saver. It is so quick and easy to apply this creamy compact which turns to a soft powdery matte finish. SPF 15, comfortable and lightweight. 21 shades.

Ideal Flawless Cream To Powder offers Invisiblend Technology like it's liquid counterpart, to help you find your perfect match. Medium to full coverage, that is easy to apply with the compact that goes on creamy and and finishes powdery. 21 shades.

Powder

Loose or Pressed, Ideal Flawless Powder is the perfect finish. Matte coverage to set your liquid or cream foundation, or use directly over your moisturizer. 10 shades.

Smooth Minerals is the best choice for an easy natural look. Use your daily moisturizer (with SPF, of course) and set with this lightweight, medium coverage powder foundation. Pure mineral pigments provide amazing color coverage, or choose translucent to set a liquid foundation. 12 shades.

All About Eyeliner: 4 Types and 4 Tips

Eyeliner is used to outline and define the eyes. It can help create a soft, smudgy look or a bold, dramatic look and it can change the allusion of eye shape.

4 Types of Eyeliner

Pencil
Pencil eyeliners are fast and less expensive so they are great for everyday. The point does have to be sharpened frequently, but pencils create a softer look. To apply, draw little sections at a time and fill in the line. Rather than applying one long stroke, go back and forth to define the line.

Liquid
Liquid eyeliners have high pigmentation and can create a super precise line. Liquid is great for creating the trendy winged/cat’s eye liner look, but it takes a super steady hand and practice. To apply, steady your hand the best you can by resting your elbow against a solid surface or resting your hand against your chin as you draw the line. Starting at the inner corner or midway, drag the brush along your lash line in short strokes, continuing along and going back over the line as needed.

Kohl
Kohl eyeliners are thicker, softer pencil eyeliners and often come with a rubber tip to smudge and soften even more. To create thick, dark lines for that smudgy or smoky look, apply the kohl eyeliner along the lash lines. The great thing is you don’t have to be super precise because the eyeliner will be softened out Next, blend the color out with the blending tool, or even a qtip. I’ve even used my fingers to soften and smudge kohl eyeliner.

Gel
Gel eyeliner usually comes in a little paint pot and is applied with a separate brush. The beauty of gel is that you can really control application, it is soft and often a more waterproof formula. The brush can give you very precise control on application.

4 Tips for Eyeliner

Dried product
Liquid and gel eyeliners, and mascaras, that have dried out can easily be revived by adding a drop or two of eyedrops and mixing well.

Lower line
So many MUAs say not to make the bottom lash line too dark with eyeliner. Personally, I think a dark lower line can be used to make certain looks work. The concern is that eyeliner on the bottom lid smudges more easily, so avoid touching your face or eyes!

Uneven line
Liner sometimes ends up all crooked and uneven, or on the brow, or nose, or… yeah, it can be hard to control. Don’t pull your eyelid to make skin taut, as that actually makes the line askew. Draw from the outside in, so inner to middle and then outer to middle. Use short strokes that combine to make one smooth even line. Finally, rest your elbow and/or your hand against something to steady your hand as you apply the liner.

Prime
Eye primer used to help eyeshadow stick will also help eyeliner stick. Primer can also be a good color tool, so if you are shooting for bold contrast, the primer should help develop that contrast as well.
